FREE STORYTELLING WORKSHOP (Sunday, 1-4pm, auditorium) Guests Lyn Ford (Ohio) and Kuniko Yamamoto join Jeff Gere to teach storytelling. Just COME! We'll speak, share, and laugh 'talkin' story'. All levels & ages welcome.

LOPAKA KAPANUI* has written two books filled with Hawai'i's spooky lore. He is a Mason, and is studying to become a kumu hula. In One For the Road, he shares a story about his transition out of WWF Wrestling into leading ghost tours.

 

 


KUNIKO YAMAMOTO is known for telling traditional Japanese tales in unique, untraditional ways using magic, masks, and common object manipulations. She shares How to Win Kappa and Sushi Mat Adventure illustrating this work.

 
 
 


LYN FORD  performed in Ireland earlier this fall. She'll tour Kaua'i and Maui libraries this trip. In her family, the rule was "you must go to church somewhere". Lyn shares a humorous take on what that could be in Grandpa's Little Angels.

JAMES McCARTHY* is Hawai'i's 'Irish' troubadour in the band, The Doolin' Rakes. He shares the totally wonderful tales & tunes he's created and performs in Honolulu Theater for Youth's Stripes & Stars (A Surprising History of the US).

 

 


LIZ SOTO & YOUTH SPEAKS. Liz is one of the stars of O'ahu's phenomenal Slam Poetry scene. She is also the 'den mother' for Hawai'i's High School Slam Poetry Team, which placed first nationally for the second year in a row.

 


MICHAEL PARENT (Maine) was inducted into the 'Circle of Excellence' (National Storytelling Network) recognizing him as one of America's finest talents. He performs his moving experience in the Lock-Ward.

JEFF GERE* is the Festival founder, MC and Drama Specialist for the Parks Department. In 1976, he stumbled into the ancient Sioux Indian ritual, The Sun Dance, a shocking transformative rite which provoked many reflections.
